Belgian director Ivo van Hove, winner of the prestigious Tony Award, makes his Metropolitan debut with a new production of Mozart's tragicomedy. This interpretation of the work about betrayal and a curse shifts the action to an abstract architectural landscape, allowing the darkest recesses of the story to be highlighted and the focus on the opera's characters to be brought into sharper focus. Another debut at the conductor's podium will see French contralto and conductor Nathalie Stutzmann take up the baton for the first time at the Metropolitan. The charismatic Don Juan will be portrayed by baritone Peter Mattei, accompanied by sopranos Federica Lombardi, Ana María Martínez, Ying Fang, bass-baritone Adam Plachetka and tenor Ben Bliss in the new Metropolitan production. Conductor: Nathalie Stutzmann.
