The latest production of the most pompous opera by R. Strauss at the Metropolitan was directed by Canadian Robert Carsen. According to the director's creative idea, the action of the opera is slightly pushed forward from the 1740s to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries (the very end of the Habsburg dynasty rule), thus further highlighting the wealth inequality and class struggle. The main role of Viennese aristocrat Marschallin is played by soprano Lise Davidsen, her lover Octavian by mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard. The role of the beauty Sophia is embodied by soprano Erin Morley, and the plump baron Ochs who is interested in her is played by bass Günther Groissböck. Conductor: Simone Young; Performers: Lise Davidsen, Isabel Leonard, Erin Morley, Günther Groissböck, Markus Brück, Katharine Goeldner, René Barbera. Duration: 4 hours 45 minutes.
