Improdimensija, the cradle of genre-defying music of the highest class, comes to Birštonas to close the autumn season! The closing celebration will feature the brightest stars of Scandinavian free jazz and improvised music today - drummer Kresten Osgood and pianist Soren Kjaergaard. The duo will also be joined by Liudas Mockūnas, lead singer of Improdimensija, saxophonist and Lithuanian free jazz and improvisational music giant.
Kresten and Soren - cousins, who first stepped on the stage in 1992 in Oklahoma, USA. That time, according to eyewitness accounts, the two Danish teenagers showed what they were worth! Since then, K. Osgood and S. Kjaergaard have met regularly in different bands, such as the Danish National Theatre. They have also been involved in different groups, including Michael Blakes' quartet Blake Tartare, trio formats with bassists Thom Morgan, Hugo Rasmussen and Jonas Westergaard, The Motherfucking Trio with trumpet master Herb Robertson, and even in the cult Danish hip-hop group Ikscheltaschel. They are relatives for whom playing is a constant quest for new experiences without being limited by any preconceived notions!
K. Osgood and S. Kjaergaard's duo is a unique phenomenon not only in the Scandinavian, but also in the European context of contemporary and experimental jazz. In Birštonas, the duo will present a virtuoso musical performance that will not lack drama or comedy. It will be a narrative full of the most unexpected dramatic twists and turns, which will make the audience realise that the saying that we have heard it all before is false.
L. Mockūnas, the owner of the impressive lungs and the crazy ideas, will also be joining the story. Through consistent work and active participation in various musical projects, he has become one of the most important personalities of the European improvisational scene, regularly performing in various parts of the world, from the USA to Japan, with musicians such as Barry Guy, Mats Gustafsson, Agustí Fernandez, Marc Ducret, Christian Windfield, and others. He is a saxophonist with a very distinctive playing technique and innovative ideas.
The event is partly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture
Eladijus Kirijanovas, a businessman and financial expert currently living in Birštonas, has also contributed to the organisation of the event.
