If Lithuanians celebrate Užgavėnes by going away in winter, Ukrainians in Transcarpathia are even more dedicated to celebrating Malanka Carnival - they construct impressive costumes out of straw, make masks, and make noise while competing. Having earned a living abroad, Pamfir returns to his family. Once the toughest smuggler, today he promises his religious wife to behave honestly. However, because of his son, he has to step into the border forest once more - for the very last time.
