The Kaunas Symphony Orchestra invites you to hear the world opera star American tenor Stephen Costello. Renowned for his exceptional voice and his particularly powerful performances, Stephen Costello made his debut in 2007 at the opening concert of the Metropolitan Opera season in New York. Two years later, after winning the prestigious Richard Tucker Award, he has established himself as one of the world's top tenors and is regularly invited to perform at some of the world's most famous theatres and festivals. In the 2023/2024 season, Costello will perform the role of Don José (Carmen) at the Bavarian National Opera, Rodolfo (La Boheme) at the Metropolitan Opera, Verdi's Requiem at the Zurich Opera, and the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra's acclaimed summer festival, Bravo! Costello has a warm, clear and powerful voice, with a high register that allows him to easily interpret a wide range of roles, from romantic heroes to dramatic characters. He is renowned for his ability to combine his exceptional vocal talent with his superb acting skills, making him one of the most charismatic tenors in the world of opera. Because of his expressiveness and passion on stage, Costello's performances are often hailed by critics and audiences alike.
In 2019, Costello will be performing in a variety of genres. A Te, o Cara, a CD recorded by Costello and the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, was nominated for the prestigious Grammy Awards.
Joining Costello on stage will be the talented soprano Gabrielle Bukinė, a young soloist of the next generation. Nominated for the Golden Stage Cross and awarded the Fortuna statuette, in 2023 she was the absolute winner of the international competition for young opera singers in Klaudia Taev (Estonia), winning first prize and the Audience Choice Award. Bukinė has been a soloist at Kaunas State Music Theatre since 2020, and in 2023 she made her debut at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
