Pilenai is a pagan castle in Samogitia, surrounded by legends, which was stormed in the 14th century.
After two days of fierce fighting, the Pilėnai realised that the invasion of the Crusaders had been successful, and not wanting to give up, they embarked on a desperate plan - to turn the guns on themselves and their relatives.
As artists Matas Dirginčius and Naubertas Jasinskis revisit the history of the Pilėnai, the constructs of heroic tradition and patriarchy become the axis of analysis. Faced with the threat of war and the danger of extinction, ideas of masculinity are reinforced.
In this performance, the artists deconstruct the notion of masculinity and question how to create new models of interaction that emphasise openness, sensitivity and empathy.
