The film opens with a class reunion at a fancy restaurant, where violinist Antis Larto, aka Anton Lardozo, arrives from Paris. The next day, Anton meets and falls in love with the housekeeper, Kirsti, while on a trip with a friend to a villa in the countryside. But soon a mysterious woman from the violinist's past appears. Vaala's directorial talent and interest in rich cinematic expression are evident in the film: he uses large sets, a variety of shooting angles and a play of light and shadow that transcends the conventions of silent cinema. And actor T. Tulio gives a superb performance as a violin virtuoso who breaks the hearts of women in Finland and around the world, but ultimately finds himself in the emptiness of his own soul.
