"Der Prozess" is a ballet created by choreographer Martynas Rimeikis. Ballet troupe soloist who started his career as a choreographer in 2015. debuted with the one-act ballet "Everywhere we weren't", which became a part of the performance "Bolero+". M. Rimeikis chose Franz Kafka's novel "The Process" as the basis for the plot of the new work.
Choreographer Martynas Rimeikis: "I think, for the writer, the bureaucratic system that crushes the individual was just a means to talk about fundamental values - freedom and guilt. In fact, Jozef K.'s freedom is limited primarily by the preconceived belief of those around him that he is guilty. And it depends only on the person whether he will accept the guilt that is persistently thrown at him or not. Some eventually believe it themselves, while others keep hope and resist even being led to the guillotine."
So "The Process" is a ballet about preserving hope, about a flash of love, about light in a system full of bureaucratic absurdity. Isn't this ballet sometimes about us?..
The creator chose an extremely serious and complex theme for his performance, proving once again that it is possible to convey not only beautiful and pleasant things through dance. That is precisely why "Der Prozess" became a noticeable event in the wide panorama of European dance, and the mature choreographic language of "Der Prozess" deserved the attention of not only the Lithuanian audience.
"Procesas" visited the international contemporary and classical ballet festival "Dance Brno 2019" in the Czech Republic, and was shown on tour at the Grand Theater in Warsaw. For this production, composer M. Urbaitis and choreographer M. Rimeikis in 2018. were awarded "Golden Crosses of the Stage". "Procesas" became the first performance from Lithuania, the video of which was broadcast by the worldwide watched "Mezzo" TV channel.
"Most of all, I would like the audience not to form a preconceived notion that a ballet according to F. Kafka's "The Process" must inevitably be dark, gloomy and boring. On the contrary, I am also waiting for those viewers who once picked up the novel in their hands and were not able to get through it to the end. Just come and watch the ballet with an open heart and open eyes", invites "Proceso" creator M. Rimeikis.
