In the middle of spring, NALŠIA invites you to an exclusive concert at St Catherine's Church!

April 13, 1924, At 18:00, Vilnius City Folklore Ensemble NALŠIA together with jazz pianist Rytas Linge invites you to a concert of romances and popular songs "Songs of the Traveller" at St. Catherine's Church.

"Songs of the Traveller" is the newest, not yet widely heard program. This is the third programme of Nalshia's travels with songs. This time we will no longer invite you to travel with the songs in all possible directions of time and space, but we will follow where the most popular guests of our family meetings, tables and celebrations, who have been sung by the Lithuanians for more than a century, and who seem to be so close and familiar to us, came from. Have you ever heard a Russian romance sung to the same well-known melody, or been drawn to a slagger by unknown authors, or wondered why a favourite song is called "Spanish Waltz" or "Little Dove" is flying off the coast of Havana somewhere? Doesn't one get a treacherous feeling reading these lines now that what seemed to be based on a sensitive authenticity and a certain unique national colouring might just be songs that know no territorial boundaries because they are capable of captivating the heart of any listener? Probably yes, and that's why you understand what it means to encounter traveller songs, says Audronė Vakarinienė, the ensemble's director, inviting you to the concert.

So what melodies have we heard, liked and recognised as our own? How did it happen? Nalšia will tell you about it in its new programme.

"Nalšiai" will be assisted by the jazz pianist  Rytas Lingė, who will adorn the paths of the "song travellers" with unexpected colours, and will also delight you with his unique arrangements of romances.
