MUSIC FOR HOPE
Darius Mažintas (piano). Programme includes works by Chopin and Čiurlionis
MUSICAL PERFORMANCES
Pianist duo Romualdas Lukošius and Rimantas Jurkonis Musical fantasies "Alla Rossini", "Rondo", "Barcarole", "From Grieg to Tico-Tico"
The piano playing of Darius Mažintas has been associated with expressiveness, emotionality and delicacy. The pianist is characterised by his unique interpretation, unexpected nuances and distinctive musical images. Mažintas has won prizes in international competitions, has been invited to perform at festivals, and has given concerts with various orchestras and renowned Lithuanian and foreign performers. He is also the author of educational music projects, organiser of charity concerts and founder of cultural institutions. In 2023, Darius Mažintas performed a recital at the NATO Summit.
This time Darius Mažintas will perform works by Chopin and Čiurlionis. Both brilliant composers share a sense of spiritual freedom, creative dedication and love for their homeland. These values are important for a pianist, they shape the musicality of the pianist and inspire the pianist to search for the form of performance.
The famous Chopin Nocturnes played by D. Mažintas are emotionally rich, full of subtexts, which will undoubtedly be noticed by the audience. The pianist performed Chopin's Nocturnes in war-torn Ukraine, the latter seeming to evoke the desire for freedom and hope. The choice of Čiurlionis's works is also not accidental. During the concert we will hear compositions that would not have been born without creative freedom and love for Lithuania. As D. Mažintas says: "M. K. Čiurlionis is a profound creator who saw colours and events that many people did not see. When performing his music, it is important for me to notice those colours and to convey them to the listener as I feel them."
The pianist duo Romualdas Lukošius and Rimantas Jurkonis will present a virtuosic and witty programme "Musical Pranks". It is a musical pastiche with the ingredients of eternal classics, jazz, musicals, of course, played on two pianos. Playing together for more than 40 years, they have popularised classical arrangements and are presented at concerts as the craziest and wittiest piano duo. Their wild fantasies bring together composers from different periods, different parts of the world, different styles, genres, musical jokes and lyrical reprieves. Each of their performances is a fiesta of musical pyrotechnics: mottled, glowing, sparkling with hot flashes.
