Medieval Christians were fascinated by the Old Testament account of the Hebrews' enslavement in Egypt, their exodus to the Promised Land, and the crossing of the Red Sea. This is because this story was seen as a symbol of man's expulsion from Paradise and his eventual return to grace through baptism and recognition of Jesus as the Messiah. In particular, the return from exile - the crossing of the Red Sea - was celebrated with joyful singing and dancing in the churches during the great feasts. During the concert, the "Magister Petrus" ensemble will perform this festive music and share the tradition of performing live music from the Middle Ages. The Spanish ensemble Magister Petrus reconstructs the performance of music from the Romanesque and early Gothic periods. Under the guidance of musicologist Mauricio Molina, the performers prepare their program based on primary sources of music, iconography and literature.
