For the first time, one of the most prominent bands on the American jazz scene, Snarky Puppy, who won the prestigious Grammy statuette this year, is coming to Kaunas Jazz.
The "Snarky Puppy" concert will take place on April 28, 2024 at the "Zalgiris" arena in Kaunas.
The collective with a constantly changing composition is called a phenomenon of modern American music.
In 2024, Snarky Puppy will celebrate its 20th anniversary, which is exactly how many years ago the group was formed by students at the University of North Texas. Founded by composer, producer, instrumentalist Michael League, the band has been known from the beginning as promoters of refreshing musical freedom.
Each record of this group is different, and the main principle that the musicians adhere to is not to repeat themselves in any way. This, by the way, also partially applies to the composition of the group. The extended roster of members of Snarky Puppy includes about twenty musicians. By the way, one of the members of the group, immortalized in the latest album, is drummer Jamison Ross, who performed at "Kaunas Jazz" in 2022.
What's more, the group's albums (and there are 15 of them already) have featured over 40 musicians, each leaving their mark in Snarky Puppy's illustrious history.
Back in 2014, the group won their first Grammy statuette (for best rhythm and blues performance), and today they already have five. Because as many as four albums of the group were recognized as the best of the year in the contemporary instrumental music category.
The band's most recent victory at the Grammys was in 2023, when their album Empire Central was awarded a statuette.
Even more impressively, Snarky Puppy has won Grammys all five times they have been nominated for these awards. Very few artists can boast such 100% success - and this once again proves the charm and quality of the band's music.
It is interesting that "Snarky Puppy" are welcome at jazz festivals all over the world, but they do not classify their music as this genre. To be more precise, "Snarky Puppy" generally refuses to be limited by any genre, although it is appropriated by fans of jazz rock and funk.
