Event description
Object and Mask Theatre's performance "Trap"
Inspired by the works of Stasys Eidrigevičius and Jan Švankmajer, the performance "Trap" presents a unique approach to the topic of manipulation. It is a theatre of objects and masks, created by an international team of Lithuanian and French stage artists.
The director of the play, Golden Stage Cross award-winning artist Jūratė Trimakaitė, creates a spectacular world in which a character, who falls into the net of a manipulator, is subjected to various forms of manipulation, from exploitation of the labour market, to the pressing of her personal fears and unrealistic dreams. She not only resists manipulation, but also falls victim to it, using masks as a means of defence and adaptation.
The setting chosen for the play is an office. Therefore, in this object-based performance, the narrative is constructed by masks made of objects related to the everyday life of the office: binders, coffee cups, sugar packets, scissors, adhesive tape, etc.
The Trap raises questions about honour, dignity, and the causes of manipulation in modern society. It is a visually spectacular work in which masks and objects act as tools to reveal the inner state of the characters and their relationships with each other. The performance has received international acclaim and attention from audiences and critics alike.
Since 2019, Trapped has visited international festivals in Ukraine, Italy, France and Israel, where it has been hailed as a work with an original visual language and a high level of artistic merit. Now the play returns to Lithuania, a unique opportunity to see it in Radviliškis.
