In this programme, artificial intelligence will take us on a puzzling tour of synthetic cutting films created using AI tools, as well as films exploring the topic. The Crows - an award-winner at the Cannes Short Film Festival - and the ironically titled Hardly Working - filmed in a game documenting characters controlled by algorithms. The programme will make you question what is real and what is a mirage of algorithms and will leave you with more questions than answers. Nor will you find out whether the text was written by a human or a machine. N-13

Work for the sake of work
Hardly Working
Dir. Total Refusal / documentary / Austria / 2022 / 21 min.
This film brings to the foreground those characters that usually remain in the background of video games. NPCs, also known as non-playable characters, are like actors in a digital world, their task is to create a semblance of normality. The washerwoman, the stable hand, the sweeper and the carpenter are observed with the precision of an ethnographer's gaze. These are Sisyphean machines whose work actions, patterns of activity and errors and interferences draw a vivid analogy with work in the capitalist system.
Backflip
Backflip
Dir. Nikita Diakur / animation / Germany, France / 2022 / 12 min.
Backflips are not safe - you can break your neck, land on your head or bruise your wrists. It's not much fun, so I entrusted this stunt to my avatar. He trains on a six-core processor with machine learning. The processor is not state-of-the-art, but it still calculates six jumps per iteration. One iteration lasts one minute, which means 360 jumps per hour and 8640 jumps per day. I would not jump that many myself.
The realm of the "Parcel Dance"
Delivery Dancers Sphere
Dir. Ayoung Kim / experimental / South Korea / 2023 / 25 min.
Ernst Mo works for the powerful courier service Delivery Dance. Every day, she delivers a never-ending stream of parcels along algorithm-generated routes through the labyrinthine streets of techno-futuristic Seoul. One day, however, she meets an alternative version of herself and her reality slowly begins to unravel.
