One fine day, teenage Zuzana's dad Paul, who works at the railway station, is dragged home by a white dog he has never seen before. The sight of such a beauty takes the girl's breath away and she begs her dad to let her keep the dog. However, Dad explains that no one can keep this dog at all, because it is nobody's dog: it likes to travel on trains and only occasionally stops somewhere. However, it soon becomes clear that the white dog would also like to stay with the girl. Named Lampo, the cute animal soon becomes the darling of the locals. Except for Polo's boss, the train station manager, who doesn't like the fame of the train-travelling pooch very much. Determined to do everything he can to get rid of the ill-fated animal, one day he gets his way. When she realises that the missing Lampo may never come back, the girl falls ill. The people around her try to help her in any way they can, even though they know in their hearts that only Lampo's return can assuage the girl's grief. But can he find his way back to his new friend? The main story of Lampo, the dog who used to run trains on his own, is true. It took place between 1953 and 1960 at the Campiglia Marittima train station in Tuscany (about 60 km south along the Ligurian coast from Livorno). The dog was cared for by the station keeper, Elvio Barlettani (who later wrote a book about Lampo), and after the dog's death, a statue of Lampo was erected at the station, which continues to delight people to this day.
