The event will be held in Spanish with a translation into Lithuanian.
MARIANA ENRÍQUEZ (b. 1973) is an Argentine novelist, one of the most important members of the group of the "new Argentinean narratives". Born in Buenos Aires, she studied journalism and social communication. Her short stories and novels have been translated into many languages. Her book "Why it's dangerous to smoke in bed" (Los peligros de fumar en la cama) was shortlisted for the international Booker Prize in 2021, and her novel "Nuestra parte de la noche" (2019) was awarded the Herralde Prize. Enriquez's gothic-influenced works explore themes such as youthful rebellion, alienation, addiction and poverty, while at the same time showing compassion for the marginalised and the humiliated. Two collections of her short stories have been published in Lithuanian: "What We Lost in the Fire" (2018, translated by Laura Liubinavičiūtė) and "Why It's Dangerous to Smoke in Bed" (2022, translated by Augustė Čebelytė-Matulevičienė).
