After studying psychology and acting in New York, USA, artist Giedrė Mockeliūnaitė returned to Lithuania and started her painting career. Since 2018, her works reflect a combination of different artistic fields that interact and merge into a seamless creative process.
"For me, painting is the culmination of all the art that has matured inside me over years of experience, both in acting in cinema and theatre, and in contemporary dance, having studied in the most prestigious drama schools in New York. As an artist, it is especially important for me to be able to share another creative aspect, as each area is complementary and helps me to unfold even more", says G. Mockeliūnaitė.
The artist has devoted the year 2023 to the process of creating the Kind Of Blue exhibition and this year she is continuing her painting journey by presenting two new large-size paintings in her second solo exhibition Urban Garden in her hometown of Kaunas. Mockeliūnaitė's vision is to create an artistic oasis in the heart of the city, accessible to everyone, so that every visitor to the exhibition feels like a plant, watered with colours and shapes.
In this exhibition, the artist seeks to reveal the contrasts in colour and rhythm of her hometown - to transport viewers to a utopian, eternal summer through brightness and forms. Giedrė Mockeliūnaitė uses mixed media in her works: oil and acrylic paints, pastels, various textures and vivid colours, which appear on large canvases. The artist experiments with different creative speeds, from vigorous brushstrokes to the slow and careful finish of a composition.
