The Night is Young.Bel Canto Choir and Duodeco together
Bel Canto Choir presents: a cosy evening concert with the vocal ensemble Duodeco.
On 14 June, at 8.30 pm, at the charming St Catherine's Church, Vilnius, Duodeco and the Bel Canto Choir will perform a sensitive, stylistically varied musical programme. This is the first joint performance of the two ensembles. Justinas Stanevičius (vocals), Andrius Gailiūnas (acoustic guitar) and Mindaugas Rumšas (saxophone) will enrich the concert programme with their solo roles, while the choir's choirmaster, pianist Raminta Gocentienė will be playing piano.
The Choir's Bel Canto and Duodeco programme will feature works by the world's most famous contemporary composers Eric Whitacre, Christopher Tin, Bob Chilcott, Ēriks Ešenvalds, as well as Lithuanian composers Vytautas Miškinis and Donatas Zakaras, all of whom have been favourites of the ensemble and the audience.
The special highlight of the evening will be the works of American composer Christopher Tin. He is one of the world's most celebrated contemporary composers and conductors, winner of two Grammy Awards, and composer of concert and video game music and other media.
Choras Bel Canto and Duodeco will perform two movements from Christopher Tin's latest large-scale work The Lost Birds. This cinematic-style work with a strong social and environmental dimension is a musical memorial to bird species that have been decimated by humanity. It is a moving work that pays tribute to the flocks of birds that once filled our skies and whose songs have fallen silent.
Both ensembles will also perform a vocal version of Christopher Tin's famous work Sogno di Volare. This composition, written for the video game Civilization VI, is a musical illustration of Leonardo Da Vinci's texts on flight. It is about discovery: both geographical, when we discover new lands, and intellectual, when we pursue science and new technologies.
