On this important anniversary, it should be noted that for the past 20 years, Lithuanian Navy ships and troops have been participating intensively in international naval exercises and operations in various European waters - the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the English Channel, the Atlantic coast of France, and in the Arctic Ocean in the north of Norway - together with their allies from other NATO countries' navies. Interestingly, in 2006, the M51 mine countermeasures ship Kuršis was the first Lithuanian warship to be assigned to a NATO Standby Force. In 2014 and 2020, Lithuanian naval officers have been tasked to lead the NATO Standby Mine Countermeasures Ship Group I, consisting of warships from various NATO countries. All this and more is reflected in an exhibition of photographs and installations. The Lithuanian Navy, in cooperation with NATO partners, has specialised in maritime minehunting and mine clearance operations. It is significant and relevant that during the period of the country's restored independence, Lithuanian and allied warships and demining divers have found and defused more than 200 sea mines and other explosive devices in the Lithuanian territorial sea and exclusive economic zone, which have been left behind and posed a threat to shipping since the First and Second World Wars.
