March 3. Duo Simile, a rare violin and viola ensemble, will give a concert at the Kaunas Philharmonic on March 3. The duo of violinist Milda Kraujutaitytė and violist Silvija Čiuladytė came together out of a desire to take their personal friendship to the professional stage. "Duo Simile aims to present rarely heard works for violin and viola ensemble to the Lithuanian audience, to initiate the emergence of new works in this genre and to share professional, stylistically informed music performance.

According to the performers, the idea of this evening's concert programme was inspired by the "Three Madrigals" for violin and viola by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. This work is characterised by a distinctive musical language typical of 20th century composers - folk music motifs intertwined with a modern musical language, as well as a very high level of virtuosity and use of the string instruments. As B. Martinů was inspired by two duets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (K. 423, K. 424), the members of the ensemble included one of them in the programme. And a rarely performed duet by Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda will be a perfect addition to the programme in this genre.
