The theme of the 2nd International Art and Science Triennial "UFNA: Unpredictable Futures" is water. The experimental artistic research platform initiated by the Lithuanian Artists' Union and focused on future technologies and innovations, this year's event highlights climate change and the resulting water problems, as well as water-related perspectives and visions. The main exhibition of the project and the accompanying comprehensive programme is organised in Klaipėda, together with the KCCC and the Marine Research Institute of Klaipėda University. The exhibition at the Arka Gallery is dedicated to the actualization of the natural surface that brings species together, faces ecological challenges and generates life. The exhibition speaks about the (in)visible connections, the environments that not only surround us, but are also responsible for the coexistence of different species. Nature is rethought here not only as a medium or habitat, but also as a kind of custodian of the memory and experiences of the people who live next to it, a territory that, beneath its silent surface, generates a multitude of different processes and changes, inevitably influencing the ecosystem and the future of us all. Under the Surface presents a rich set of spatial images that reflect on the landscapes beneath the various physical, semantic and virtual surfaces.
