The photographs show the Truikinų spring, or Šmita spring (Skuodas district), recorded at different times of the year. The observer can see the changing mystical beauty of nature and the incredible reflections of the water.
The spring is named after Šmita, who used to live in the neighbouring homestead and used to look after it. In the past, villagers used to soak flax in it (it is said that the woven linen was very white), and water the animals. Only once a bull and a cow fell into the aquifer. Now the depth of the spring is 6 metres (it used to be deeper).
At the beginning of the 20th century a chapel stood by the spring. It is said that this spring had healing properties. People from further afield used to come here to treat their joints, eyes and other diseases. A number of ceremonies are associated with it, such as mothers specially washing their babies here or sacrificing animals for the business.
Boulders collected from the fields were forced into the spring's basin during the times of land reclamation, but the spring has survived and is still enjoying its vitality.
In 1980, the Truikini spring was declared a natural monument, and on 3 November 1999, it was declared a hydro-geological natural heritage site. In 2002, the spring was inscribed on the list of state-protected natural heritage sites.
"For me, photography is just a soul-pleasing hobby, which came about when I inherited a large number of photographs taken by my mother and my godfather. Later on, I also developed a lot of like-minded people and friends. I wanted to create something interesting, unique and distinctive. I discovered the source of the Truikins quite unexpectedly - it was shown to me by the locals. The spring is hidden between two cliffs, at the very bottom of a ravine. The surrounding slopes are covered with trees."
