When I stop in the middle of silence, my arms get heavy, my knees buckle and I fall. The silence is crackling, full of longing, of the past, of childhood. And every sound, smell, taste comes alive - begins to creep, to haunt me. I go. I stop. I stand here surrounded by sounds, smells, tastes, in the middle of silence. My arms become heavy, my legs bow and I fall.
The performance "Inside" is an immersive experience that reflects the viewer's subconscious and allows them to find a connection with their inner life. Ingeniously shifting dreamscapes, visions and fantasies blur the boundaries between personal and collective experience, alter the perception of time, create space to pause, and open new subconscious portals to the vitality and awareness of the soul, spirit and body.
The performance by actress Gintarė Šmigelskytė, which combines movement and installations, will immerse the viewer in a dreamlike atmosphere where thoughts, emotions and feelings defy logic, and the ensuing inner chaos reminds us that the journey towards the self is a highly personal, yet universally shared human endeavour.
The author of the idea and performer of the performance Gintarė Šmigelskytė is a professional actor, movement artist, choreographer, graduated from the Theatre Lab at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London. Currently, as a choreographer, she creates physical performances in Lithuania and abroad, performs in theatre, cinema and television.
The idea of the performance "Inside" was developed during a residency at the Jerzy Grotowski Institute in Wrocław. During the residency she worked on two themes: Carl Gustav Jung's ideas of the process of individuation and the points of contact between post-dramatic theatre and Jerzy Grotowski's ideas (theatre laboratory, theatre of the poor, physical theatre).
