In the dark, flashing artificial lights give the impression of danger. The eye meets a pair of glowing dots that stand out from the solid darkness. Layers of paint glue the shadows together into a single mass, turning them into a completely different form. The unrecognisable original shapes re-embody the fragile illusions on the surface of the canvas. The title of the exhibition suggests the intention of the series of paintings to present a kind of transitory flair. A state of limbo balancing between different planes, moving carefully along a thin line, not crossing the threshold, but always preparing for it. By constantly blurring the boundaries between reality and artifice, a different, new state is created. As yet unknown and restless. In part, the medium of painting works in a similar way, materialising images between the physical and the illusory. When painting happens, it does so in time, through time. Never instantaneously, although seeing it happens instantaneously. It grows through movement, but nevertheless remains stagnant at the end. In this way, the in-between expression of painting combines different experiences of being and allows something new to emerge on its surface. Viktorija Kemeklė (b. 1999) is a painter who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2021 and is currently continuing her studies at the Master's level. In 2022, she studied at the École Supérieure d'Art et de Design in Reims, France, as part of an exchange programme. The artist has had two solo exhibitions (Play dead at the Beatričė Grincevičiūtė Memorial Apartment-Museum and Tranzitas at the Pilaitė Library) and has participated in various projects and group exhibitions. Through painting, the artist is interested in finding a space for creating a connection with others, and she uses painted images as a means of communication.
