Event description
Vilma Vasiliauskaitė is an active participant in Lithuanian artistic life. The artist has held over a hundred solo exhibitions in various galleries and public spaces in Vilnius and other cities, and is also invited to painting plein air and group art exhibitions. Vasiliauskaitė, who graduated from Šiauliai Pedagogical University with a degree in painting and art history, has been intensively developing her painterly style. In the early stages of her work, she was interested in the theme of women, expressed through the image of a classical ballet dancer. Over time, the range of themes expanded and the artistic issues became more complex. The fragile, nostalgic ballerinas began to be replaced by allegories of liberated feelings, which invaded the artist's oeuvre with the motifs of ancient mythology ("The Abduction of Europe"), and were flanked by the grotesque images of political farce ("Taking Off Our Masks"), and by the metaphors of the transformation of the personality inspired by the reflections of the self-discovery. ("Convictions", "Coming Home - Taking Off My Crown", etc.) Although the artist pays great attention to the symbolic content of her paintings and the details of her literary narrative, the means of painting play a decisive role in her work. With her innate sense of colour, the painter makes extensive use of the possibilities of colour: sometimes she chooses a solid, nuanced palette, sometimes a vivid, contrasting one. Recently, her canvases have taken on dramatic hues, her palette has become richer and more saturated, and her brushstrokes are vibrant and broad. The exhibition will be on view at Pylimo Gallery (Pylimo g. 30, Vilnius) until 11 May.
