Event description
W. A. Mozart. "Requiem" in D minor, K. 626
Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra
Conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius
On the Day of Mourning and Hope, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be performing the "Requiem" for four soloists, choir, and symphony orchestra, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), one of the most beautiful pieces in the world. Written in the last years of Mozart's life, the work remains unfinished and shrouded in mystery and legend. One of them is that Mozart had a bad feeling when writing the commissioned work that he was writing it... for his own funeral. Already seriously ill and sensing his imminent death, the composer asked his students to complete the work - using Mozart's sketches, the composer's style and repetitions, they finished the score of the Requiem after the great composer had died. The work has become a kind of meditation on human destiny, a journey through the life and feelings of each individual.
This evening, Mozart's Requiem will be performed by opera soloists soprano Austėja Zinkevičiūtė, mezzo-soprano Ieva Prudnikovaitė, tenor Karolis Kašiuba, and bass Raimundas Juzuitis. The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Orchestra.
