R. Gavel's "Memoirs of a Young Man", on which this play is based, has long been included in the lists of recommended literature for schoolchildren. Pupils themselves often question why reading a work of literature provides them with guidelines for understanding it and encourages them to see certain aspects of it. It is as if pupils are obliged to read the work 'correctly'. The discussion aims to raise the question of whether the knowledge and skills taught at school are not stifling students' creativity. And more generally, is it easy for a young person to express himself, to create and to be himself?
School has a strong influence on the choices we make later in life, on a young person's path and his search. What are the challenges facing a young person today? How to make one's voice heard in the noise of society's demands and expectations? Is it easy to follow one's own path, or is it necessary? Or is it the only condition for not betraying oneself?
When we choose ourselves, we often think that we will make our way alone. But we are strong when we feel the need to form communities of like-minded people where we can feel safe and be ourselves. What role do creativity, theatre and youth organisations play in a young person's life? Could this be the real school of our lives?
