Algis Griškevičius' paintings dream of spaces, his photographs and objects dream of their inhabitants. They are aliens, expatriates and mutants, who have come from legends and fairy tales, but here have become a real fact of life. Monumental figures depict our transformation into the unknown in a future world that we do not yet know. Since the 1990s, Griškevičius's paintings have set the stage for a mystery that will decide the fate of man and the world. Our city is the same, but also frighteningly different. Anything can happen here at night. The artist documents not the present, but the phantasmagoria of a lost city. Everyday life here hides meanings that betray the imperfections, discomforts and fears of dreamers. But the path in this direction of interpretation is blocked by irony, which creates an underground layer of meaning.
