Concert dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence
Lithuania ensemble invites you to unite and celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence together in the concert "Singing Freedom". The celebratory premiere will take place on 28 March at the Tauragė Culture Centre and will be shown in other Lithuanian cities. The programme will feature a new sound of well-known songs from the Revival period and the Singing Revolution. Songs that won us freedom 35 years ago, songs that continue to nurture, strengthen and inspire us to be proud, and songs that encode our identity and determination in their lyrics and sound.
In the concert, we will recall the most popular songs of that time, sing them with the audience, and perform new patriotic songs by Lithuanian composers, and present unique arrangements of songs that have never been heard anywhere else. Legends such as "Laužo šviesa", "Laisvė", "Brolužis", "Dar ne vakaras", "Šaukiu aš tautą" or "Baltas paukštis" will also be revived. The synthesis of the national orchestra and rock band, the soloists' and choir's distinctive interpretation and modern presentation on stage will create a theatrical spectacle that will powerfully tell the story of Lithuania's freedom songs.
"The Singing Revolution was the strongest stimulus for Lithuanians, reminding them in song what they were and what they wanted to be: citizens of an independent state with its values, its language, its anthem, its flag and its identity," says the director of the celebratory programme, Leokadija Dabužinskaitė, a laureate of the Government Prize for Culture and Arts and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Lithuania awarded by the President of Latvia, Dalia Grybauskaitė. She is one of the best-known directors and choreographers of Lithuanian song festivals, festivals, and various events, who strives to reveal the deep meanings of the life of the Lithuanian people and their significance in the modern world. Dabužinskaitė has directed three musical projects in Lithuania - the Baltic mystery "Gods and People", the oratorio "13" dedicated to the Defenders of Freedom, and the concert "Eisva mudu abudu".
As you know, during the Singing Revolution (1987-1991), the Lithuanian National Song Festival was held in Lithuania.During the Revolutionary Revolution (1987-1987) in Lithuania, folk and patriotic and partisan songs were sung at the places of mass gatherings - Vingis Park, Kalnų Park, numerous demonstrations, rallies, during vigils and during the guarding of objects of national importance. Music became the main form of expression of independence and the national idea. New songs were created in abundance, and metaphorical and literal political meanings were attributed to them.
March 11, 1990. The Supreme Council adopted a set of five documents, including a provisional Basic Law, on the basis of which the Act of Restoration of Independence of Lithuania was signed and the Independence of the State of Lithuania was officially proclaimed at 22:44.
The diverse ensemble "Lietuva" brings the country's proud history to life in a modern way on stage. It is the only such joint professional choir, dance and orchestra ensemble in the Baltic States. It is a vibrant, ever-changing, but always returning to our roots and our identity - what our grandparents and parents grew up with, what we grew up with and what our children will grow up with.
The State Ensemble "Lietuva" continues its long-standing campaign "Let's Grow the Muscle of Unity", which reminds us that the heart is the main muscle of the human being, and that unity helps to unite those hearts - to unite through the living and shared history of all of us.
