In creating this exhibition of photographs as a conceptual metaphor for life-writing, Jelinskaitė uses the related possibilities of photographic storytelling (photomontage, collage, etc.), as well as intertextuality, displacement, fiction, and seriality. Her photographs, when placed in the context of the exhibition, then acquire meanings that deviate from or even contradict the original meaning, and then the photographs themselves present their own subtexts and coding conventions. The traditional power of the photographic image is deliberately reduced here, so that the individual photographs or series of photographs become the narrative itself, rather than a window into the narrative, as in the photographed version of tableau vivant. In the exhibition, the artist seeks to find a way to perceive sound, word, and thought photographically, while at the same time conceptually polemicising the snap-shot stories of social media. "The exhibition will be on view at Prospekto Gallery (Gedimino Ave. 43, Vilnius) until 22 February.
