"Tragedies hatch" is the flow of a woman's thoughts: she keeps searching for new explanations and slips into excuses for her grandmother in Poland, who wants to know if she has found a husband, for her parents, who have longed all their lives for the German passport that their daughter now has, and tried to speak German with her daughter, even though they themselves did not know this language. Ewe Benbenek creates a rhythmically raging stream of words and three voices. At some point, A, B, and C shed the burden of these memories like an outgrown dress. How can you describe what is not said? A constant oscillation between gentle and brutal memory, childish helplessness and rebellion.
Ewe Benbenek studied culture and politics at the European Viadrina University in Frankfurt am Oder and University College London, as well as literature at the University of Erfurt. From 2014 to 2019, she was a research assistant at the Research Institute for Contemporary German Literature and Theater at the University of Hamburg. In 2019, it was nominated for the Rechof Drama Award. In 2021, she won the Mülheim Drama Prize for "Tragödienbastard" and in the same year she was chosen as the young author of the year in the Theater heute critics' poll. Her work focuses on post-migrant and post-colonial discourses in theatre, performance and contemporary drama.
Uršulė Bartoševičiūtė - theater director, master of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (LMTA). Uršulė directed performances in Lithuania, Germany, Iceland and Ukraine. In the 2022-2023 season, she was the resident director at the Berliner Ensemble theater. In 2023, the play "Macbeth" directed by Ursula at Reykjavík City Theater was nominated in five categories at the Gríman National Drama Awards. In 2021, the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture awarded the director the Young Creator Award. In 2018, LMTA awarded Uršula the Jurgis Mikelaitis Prize. The director's creative search is based on feminist work methods and is related to the deconstruction and analysis of women's identity and representation in art, the influence of modern social and cultural movements on the hierarchical processes of society, the study of status and control mechanisms, the expression of religious archetypes in an atheistic society. The director works with classic, contemporary and classic deconstructing dramaturgy.
