In this exhibition, the panorama of images of Vilnius covering more than half a century shows the city as it was seen by the artists who created it in the present (now past) time. In each individual print there is an individual dialogue between the photographer and the urban landscape, often abandoning a representative cityscape, but creating a personal and direct relationship with the environment. In the fragments of the city and metonymic stories marked by the author's gaze, the importance of the everyday becomes apparent. The collage story recreates the specific and unique urban environment from small details, shows how important this place and being there are for the authors themselves.
The city, whether it is disappearing or emerging, graphic or vital, fragmented or panoramic, always contains traces of the presence of the characters, residents or outsiders who work here. Therefore, in some photographic prints we see only the human touch, while in others the "crowd" becomes a sign of a humanized space and a condition of the city's existence.
Most of the photographs presented in the exhibition are stored in the archive of the Lithuanian Union of Photographic Artists.
The activities of the Lithuanian Union of Photographic Artists are financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture.
