Text - based on Pierre Notte's play "Two Little Ladies Head North"
This is a darkly comic story about the journey of two sisters, Annette and Bernadette, in search of the grave of their father who died 25 years ago. The sisters do not know the exact location - only that he is buried somewhere near Amiens, in the North. The situation of the play is as follows: after the death of the mother, the sisters decide to "unite the dead" and bury the mother's ashes next to the father‚ whom, despite the sad story of the family's disintegration, the mother loved all her life. After taking the remains of their cremated mother, Anette and Bernadette embark on an unexpected search for their father's grave...
The 17 short episodes of the play are the vicissitudes of this somewhat macabre journey, enhanced by a criminal element (the sisters are traveling in a huge bus that has been driven off). The genre of the play is described as a musical comedy, but it does not lack lyrical passages, deep drama and sincere human content.
The play by the young playwright Pierre Notte was a huge success in France, both with the audience and the critics. in 2008 critics declared it the best play of the year. Humor, bright sadness and longing to come to terms with the shadows of the past are perfectly combined in this cheerfully told story of dramatic experiences. An important place in the performance is occupied by music and songs performed live by excellent actresses.
I am loyal to stories full of tragedy at first glance. They are like a ticking bomb - they always make you look for ways to save yourself, to feel anew, to appreciate the beauty of the world and life... (Director Arvydas Lebeliūnas)
