The Innovation and Business Center (IVC) is a 32,000 sq. m. facility dedicated to science, high-tech, medical and pharmaceutical innovators. The complex (address: Mokslininkų g. 2, Vilnius) will house scientific, experimental laboratories and offices. Like its purpose, the building itself is exceptionally innovative and sustainable. This is the first industrial building in Lithuania that will produce all the electricity needed to ensure the building's operations. An 850 kW solar power plant covers the building's facade and roof. Due to this uniqueness, it is also the first building in Lithuania with such an unconventional architectural solution integrated into its facade. The IVC building is not connected to the city's heating networks. The heating function will be performed by as many as 80 geothermal wells dug to a depth of 130 m. New generation geothermal heat pumps will produce 4.5–5 kWh of heat from 1 kWh of electricity, and the cooling efficiency will reach 4.91–5.76 kWh. The required indoor climate in the laboratories and research center will be ensured by as many as 20 ventilation systems with heat recovery. The building is equipped with an energy storage system, which, if necessary, will allow the premises to maintain heating, cooling functions and emergency lighting. To maximize energy efficiency, the IVC roof is covered with a completely white Renolit cool roof coating. This coating will not only reduce the building's cooling needs in summer by 20 percent, but will also increase the efficiency of double-sided solar modules by 20 percent. Due to the fact that all of its energy will be produced from renewable sources, the IVC complex is exceptionally sustainable - it is one of the first buildings with zero CO2 emissions in Lithuania. Investments in the construction of this complex amount to over 21 million euros.
