The Public Institution “Thomas Mann Cultural Centre” was established in 1995 with the aim of initiating cultural cooperation between the countries of the Baltic region, discussing issues relevant to Lithuanian society, analyzing the creative legacy of the writer Thomas Mann and his family members and taking care of the popularization of this legacy, spreading humanistic ideas in Lithuania and the entire Baltic region, and promoting and strengthening cultural and creative contacts between the Baltic countries. The diverse activities of the Thomas Mann Cultural Centre are a sign of European thinking, because the nurturing of Thomas Mann’s creative legacy in Lithuania means recognizing the importance of pan-European traditions in Lithuania and assuming responsibility for Europe’s cultural legacy. The creators of the Centre are the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Neringa Municipality and Klaipėda University. Over the past 28 years, the Thomas Mann Cultural Center has hosted a large number of various scientific conferences, seminars and discussions, some of which are dedicated to the analysis of the work of the writer Thomas Mann, international exhibitions have been organized, and feature films based on Thomas Mann's novels have been shown. Today, the Thomas Mann Museum and Cultural Center is of interest to Lithuanian and foreign tourists and guests of the city of Neringa. The international Thomas Mann Festival continues to take place here, as well as lectures on the work of Thomas Mann, exhibitions reflecting moments of the writer's life and his creative legacy, and other events. For 27 years, the international Thomas Mann Festival has been organized annually, with a very diverse program (music, literature, art, cinema). One day of the festival (July 16) is dedicated exclusively to the writer Thomas Mann. The constant attention of the public to the events taking place in the former summer house of Thomas Mann is an important proof of the role of the history and culture of the Klaipėda region, where cultural ties of various nations have been intertwined over the centuries. The humanist writer Thomas Mann is undoubtedly a vivid symbol of these ties. Public Institution "Thomas Mann Cultural Centre" is an organization of cultural cooperation, promoting the ideas of good neighborliness, democracy and humanism, symbolizing openness to the world.
