Born in Šiauliai. in 1996 graduated from the 16th secondary school in Šiauliai and entered Klaipėda University. There he obtained a bachelor's degree in Lithuanian philology and directing, and a master's degree in literature. in 2008 defended his thesis in the field of humanities "Modernization of poetry in the framework of totalitarian order, 20th century 7-9 decades". For some time he taught at Klaipėda and Vilnius universities.
He currently works at the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, hosts the LRT radio show "Literaturos Akiračiai". Publishes essays in the cultural press. Since 2010 - Member of the Union of Lithuanian Writers.
The first collection of R. Kmita's poetry appeared in 1999. Later, in 2002 and 2009 two more collections of poems appeared. in 2016 R. Kmita's first novel "Pietinia kronikas" was published, written not in ordinary Lithuanian, but in Šiauliat dialect. This book was selected in 2017. Lithuanian book of the year in the adult category.
