Žemaitė wrote about 354 short stories, short stories, sketches, videos, a dozen plays, a story about her childhood, journalistic articles, and correspondence. His works were published by "Ūkininke", "Varpe", "Vienybje lietuvininkų", "Naujienose", "Darbininkų balse", "Vilniaus žinise", "Lietuvos šančinke" and prepared a collection of his writings with J. Jablonski. Her most famous works: Marti, Topylis, Petras Kurmelis, Sučiuptas velnias, Sutkai.
The work is dominated by negative life phenomena, the stories are epic, ironic, and objectified. Detailed descriptions of nature, customs, household, characters' appearance are characteristic. A lot of attention is paid to the life of a woman.
