Russian poet, representative of romantic Russian literature. in 1830 M. Lermontov entered Moscow University. Science in the department of morals and politics did not satisfy him, so the next year he transferred to the department of philological sciences. Since 1834 he served in the hussar guard regiment in Tsarskoye Selo. in 1841 the poet was mortally wounded in a duel.
