Born on 3 October 1949 in Alytus in the family of a music teacher. In 1967 he graduated from Alytus 1st Secondary School. He studied at the Alytus Music School, violin class, and later at the Vilnius J. Tallat - Kelpša Higher School of Music, where he gained specialisations as a choir conductor, singer and music teacher. At the Lithuanian State Conservatoire he studied stage and jazz music.
