studied at the Art Academy of Latvia in its Department of Graphic Design, as well as in Andris Freibergs’ scenography master workshop. He is behind the scenography for more than 200 performances at the Daile Theatre, Valmiera Theatre, Latvian National Theatre, Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre, Liepāja Theatre, Theatre TT and the New Riga Theatre. In addition to his work in Latvia, he has designed sets for performances in Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Japan. He also designed the sets for the Latvian National Ballet’s productions of Don Quixote (2004), Anna Karenina (2007), Karlsson Flies... (2013) and Bolero... (2015), as well as for the Latvian National Opera’s production of The Rose of Turaida (2017), Manon Lescaut and Die Fledermaus (2015). Mārtiņš Vilkārsis is a five-time winner of Spēlmaņu nakts annual theatre award.
