From 1968 to 1974, Patrik Ziuskind studied history in Munich and Aix-en-Provence. The writer became famous for his one-act play "Contrabass", which was staged in Munich in 1981 to great acclaim. His first novel, Perfume - The Story of a Murderer, was published in 1985. The book made the author famous all over the world and remained on the bestseller lists for many years.
