Italian playwright, director, actor. In 1930, together with his brother and sister, he founded a theater troupe based on the traditions of the Neapolitan folk theater. He made his debut as a film actor in 1932, and as a film director in 1940. 1954-74 Director of the San Ferdinando Theater in Naples. Produced his own comedies and acted in them. The plays depict the life of ordinary Neapolitan people, raise social and moral issues, the main characters are close to the Neapolitan theater character Pulcinella. The dramas combine features of commedia dell'arte, domestic comedies and neorealism, with a clear influence of L. Pirandello. Wrote poetry.
