My parents come from Kazlų Rūda. From 1951 to 1959 he studied piano and violin at the Vilnius Ten-Year Music School, and sang in the choir. In 1959-1963 he studied at the J. Tallat-Kelpša Music Technical School in Vilnius. 1963-1968 studied at the LSSR Conservatoire (in the class of Augustinas Armonas).
In 1966 he began playing in the ensemble of jazz pianist Oleg Molokojedov, which included Vyacheslav Ganelin, Giedrius Balutis and other musicians. He played at the Neringa Café in Vilnius, the same year he took part in the Tallinn International Jazz Festival. 1967-1977 - Artist of the LSSR Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. In 1971 he was awarded the prize for the most artistic composition "Everything depends on the mood" at the first Lithuanian Jazz Festival. Since 1974 founder, artistic director and conductor of the ensemble Musica Humana. In 1976 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatoire, and from 1976 to 1977 he studied at the Paris Conservatoire with flutists Alain Marion and Christiaan Lardé. Since 1977 he has been teaching at the LSSR Conservatoire, and in 1986 he was appointed Associate Professor. Since 1988 he has played in the ensemble Baltic Trio with the Latvian harpsichordist Aina Kalnciema and the Estonian cellist Teet Järvi. Since 1995 member of the French Flute Association.
