Graduated from Kaunas "Aušros" high school, 1931-1936. studied at Vytautas the Great University, 1936-1939. at the universities of Paris and Grenoble.
1945-1948 taught foreign literature at Kaunas University.
He began to publish poems around 1929. The poems express the generalized emotions of love, sadness, the sense of passing time, the strong influence of the classical tradition, and many images of world culture, paraphrases, and literary quotations. Poetry is characterized by a variety of genres (sonnet, ode, hymn, etc.). His poetry has been translated and published in Russian.
Translation from Latin, English, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, German. Translated Dante's Divine Comedy, William Shakespeare's tragedies (Hamlet, King Lear, etc.) and sonnets, Johann Wolfgang Goethe's Faust (1960, 1; 1978, 2), Moliere Tartufe (1971) and other works.
