Born on 15 February 1930 in Leliūnai, Utena district. Died on 13 March 2022 in Vilnius, buried in Vilnius Antakalnis Cemetery, Artists Hill.
In 1954 he graduated in Lithuanian language and literature from Vilnius University. In 1953-1954 he was the head of the Vilnius Young Writers' Section, edited the almanac "Jaunieji". 1952-1956 - literary worker, head of the department, secretary in charge of the magazine "Tarybinė kobieta". From 1956 to 1990 (with a two-year break), he worked in the editorial office of the magazine "Pergalės" (now "Metai"): head of the Criticism Department from 1956 to 1957, head of the Prose and Poetry Department from 1957 to 1959, secretary-in-charge from 1959 to 1964, deputy editor-in-chief from 1978 to 1985, and editor-in-chief in 1964 to 1976 and from 1985 to 1989. Since 1990 member of the editorial board of the magazine "Metai". His work is often included in poetry collections, anthologies, almanacs and published in the press. He has translated and published Russian and Ukrainian authors' works in the press and in books together with other translators. Author of numerous song lyrics. Lives in Vilnius.
