Born on 08.11.1937 in Šakiai.
In 1954 graduated from Kaunas Pedagogical School. In 1961 - the Faculty of Translation at the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow. From 1955 to 1956 he worked in the editorial office of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper. From 1958 he worked with various publishing houses. He translated books from Russian and English into Lithuanian, as well as from Polish into Russian, but his main field of activity was the promotion of Lithuanian prose writers in Russian. Other literary works: 1977, screenplay for the film "Virto ąžuolai" (The Oaks Have Turned), co-written with G. Lukš, 1988-1989, editor-in-chief of the Lithuanian film studio association "Ars", 1994-2001, editor and co-author of the "Skomantas" series of historical short stories. 1988-1990 Member of the Steering Group of the Lithuanian Reshaping Sąjūdis, Member of the Council of the Sąjūdis Seimas, 1990-1992 Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania. 1989-1992 Chairman of the Stasys Šalkauskis Foundation, 1989-1994 Chairman of the Lithuanian-Polish Society.
