After graduating from high school, he entered the law faculty of Moscow University and in 1916 defended his law degree. As a student, he admired the theater and wrote funny and mocking poems. Growing unrest in Russia forces Mr. Shvarcs to change his views. He went to Rostov and until 1921 worked in a theater workshop. After that, he moved to Petersburg and, after severing ties with the theater, became close to a literary group that called itself the "Serapino Brothers". This group already included Zoshchenko, Ivanov, Kaverin and other well-known figures. in 1923 J. Švarc's satirical verses and feuilletons appeared in the Bachmut city newspaper "Kačegarka". Later, together with M. Slonimskis, he publishes the literary magazine "Zaboi".
