Born on 01.10.1945 in Keiniškės, Telšiai district.
In 1968 he graduated from Vilnius University in Lithuanian language and literature. Candidate of Philology in 1972, Doctor of Philology in 1988. Lecturer at Vilnius University since 1972, associate professor since 1982, professor since 1990. Professor of the Department of Lithuanian Literature at Vilnius University, Head of the Department from 1983-1985. Habilitated Doctor of Humanities. Professor Emerita of Vilnius University. Member of the Board of Editors of the series "Treasury of Lithuanian Literature". Member of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize Commission. Signs her books of poems under the name of Viktorija Daujotes.
