1928-1931 studied at the elementary school in Telšiai, 1931-1940. Telšiai M. Valančius high school. He studied piano, music theory and conducting with the organist of the Telšiai Cathedral, Albinas Jasenauskas. He participated in the student orchestra of Telšiai Gymnasium led by Dom Andrulis. He sang in the Šauliai Union, sang in the choirs of the Telšiai Cathedral. 1938-1940 organized the men's choir of Telšiai Gymnasium and led it. 1939 In Šiauliai, he studied with the violinist Povilas Matiukas.
1940-1943 studied at the Kaunas Conservatory: he studied violin playing with Vladas Motiekaitis, playing the piano with Vladas Jakubėnas and Jurgis Karnavičius, theoretical disciplines with V. Jakubēnas. 1943 after the Germans closed the conservatory, studies had to be stopped.
1941-1942 Violinist of the Kaunas Radiophone Light Music Orchestra. 1942-1943 Violinist of the Kaunas Operetta and Opera Orchestra. 1943 in the summer he lived in Austria, played viola in the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
1945 after returning to Kaunas, he entered the Conservatory again to learn to play the violin with prof. L. Hajos, and later with Kazis Matiuk. 1949 after reorganizing the Kaunas and Vilnius Conservatories into the Lithuanian State Conservatory, in 1950 obtained a violinist's diploma (in the class of Prof. Jakov Targonski), 1950-1953. studied composition with Antanas Račiūnas.
1953-1997 taught music theory and composition at the Vilnius Juoz Tallat-Kelpša Conservatory, 1953-1972. Head of the Department of Music Theory and Composition. His students included many well-known composers: Povilas Dikčius, Teisutis Makačinas, Algirdas Martinaitis, Mikalojus Novikas, Algimantas Raudonikis, Antanas Rekašius, Galina Savinienė, Genovaitė Vanagaitė and others.
1957-1977 led the Lithuanian Radio and Television Village Band, 1965-1990. Trakai district folk band "Galvė" performed many concerts in Lithuania and abroad: in Latvia, Estonia, Belgium, Holland, Romania, Greece, Czech Republic, Tajikistan and elsewhere. Since 1965 permanent conductor of all republican song festivals, as well as folk band festivals "Grok, Jurgeli" in Kaunas and similar events in Telšiai, Kretinga, Naujoja Akmenė, Kuršėnai, Utena and Vilnius. Since 1958 Member of the Union of Lithuanian Composers.
