Studied Slavic studies, history of theater and art. 1924 after defending his thesis on the relations between Lithuanian and Slavic folk songs, he received a doctorate in philosophy. 1924-1940 worked at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Lithuania (since 1930 VMU). He taught Russian literature, the history of world theater, led seminars on Slavic studies and theater, and established an academic drama studio. In addition to his university work, he published many literary and theater criticism articles in the press. 1929 one of the founders of the Lithuanian Society for Understanding the Culture of the Peoples of the USSR. 1932 granted the degree of extraordinary professor.B. That year, when a drama competition was announced on the occasion of Vytautas the Great's 500th anniversary (a prize of 10,000 litas), he wrote the drama "Milžinos paunksmė" and, being sure that he would win the prize, bought a car. He did not receive the bonus, so after that he spent a long time paying the debts for the car.1939 After the Faculty of Humanities of VMU was transferred to Vilnius, he continued his university work and was appointed the head of the newly established Department of Theatrology. Since 1940 lived in Vilnius. During 15 years of work, he published 14 books of fiction and scientific literature.
